Lip balms to me are a necessity, I can get very dry lips that like to flake and dry out any lipsticks or lipglosses I choose to wear. Call it out of habit or maybe it’s just down to necessity, but whatever it is I am forever applying lip balms throughout the day. Ever since I was a child I have always had very sensitive lips, Ribena would stain the area around my mouth and as soon as I eat anything hot, it looks like I’ve drawn on a thick red layer of lip liner around my lips, oh yeah I have all the luck ;) Thanks to this sensitivity I always keep a lip balm handy to calm down any redness or to inject some moisture back into my lips. The above five picks are my favourite lip balms that get me through any lip emergency.

Carmex is probably one of the most well known lip care brands and their little tubs and tubes of lip relief can be picked up in Boots and Superdrug. I have the cherry flavour and this pot lives in my dresser that houses all my makeup. I apply this before I start my makeup to allow it to sink into my lips and provide some much needed moisture. Doing this means that whatever lip product I choose to apply (be it a lipstick or a lip gloss) it glides onto my lips and lasts longer throughout the day.

When you are looking for intense treatment or overnight hydration my favourite lip balm is the Dr Lipp Nipple Balm. A name that will make you blush but a product that has worked wonders on my lips. It is made from lanolin which reduces skin roughness and works wonders on sensitive lips. It is also a multipurpose balm which I have been using on my elbows and any other areas of dry skin.

The two more standard lip balms I have are the Nuxe Reve de Miel in Stick Formula and the Elemis FreshSkin Loving Lips. The Nuxe balm (which I prefer 1000x more then the pot version) lives in my handbag so that I know when I am about and about I always have it handy. This helps to soften my lips and reduce any redness that likes to appear after I have eaten something hot. The Elemis balm was my Winter saviour and as the tube says, it really is quenching lip balm.

Finally I have the Korres Jasmine Lip Butter that I received for my birthday last year. I like to use this over bright lipsticks so that the colour is more wearable, as a lip sheen throughout the day to add a hint of colour to my lips, or as a standard lip balm when my lips are feeling dry. I am officially hooked on the Korres Lip Butters and already wondering which ones to pick up next!

Do any of these lip balms feature on your favourites list? What are your must haves?
