Big Shampoo – Big Dissapointment

A few months ago I bought myself Lush’s tub of shampoo called Big. It is a sea salt shampoo that claims to give you big, volumised hair. I hadn’t heard a lot of things about this shampoo but going by the name of it it seemed too good to resist! This tub costs £10.95 for 330g and as I was paying for it I was recommended by the sales assistant to wash my hair twice with the shampoo. Once to clean my hair and a second to create a lather. I was happy with my purchase of Big and was excited to try it out and get big hair!

The first thing I noticed when I used Big is that it feels very gritty because of the sea salt. This shampoo contains coarse sea salt, fresh lemon infusion, fresh sea water and other goodies to give you that beach kissed hair whilst retaining all the moisture and goodness your hair needs. It was a bit tricky at first getting the product into my hair and felt very strange working it through. You soon get the hang of it however and the second wash gives a lovely lather. Word or warning be careful with your eyes (and lips!) with this shampoo as it does contain salt and you will get salty lips!

After I had finished washing my hair and used my standard conditioner I was excited to see the finished result. Bring on my big, voluminous, beachy hair! But there was nothing. Whilst my hair was wet, as it was being dried and afterwards there was no noticeable difference. Nada. How disappointing! I popped in my usual volume enhancing products hoping for some added life to my hair but still. Nada. Flat as a pancake. Not only that, throughout the day I swear my hair got flatter! No word of a lie. Needless to say I was less then impressed but not one to write things off after one try I persevered.

Three weeks later and I give up. Big you are not big. You are flat and lifeless and useless. Your claims of salt and added volume have fallen short. I am now rendering you useless.

Have you tried out this shampoo before? Did you have any luck achieving big hair with it?

  • Oh gosh that sounds awful! Maybe it’s all that coarseness in it weighing your hair down! :(
Won’t be giving this a go for big hair! Thanks for the review hun :)
    xx

  • I have always been very skeptical of Lush Hair products and Tooth tabs. It was not cheap either so you were bound to expect grate things! Although I do love their lip scrub. x

    • They do have some great products but as this is their first shampoo I have tried it doesn’t tempt me to try anymore!xx

  • It’s so disappointing when a product doesn’t live up to your expectations. Lush hair products are always a but meh, I swear their dry shampoo is just talcum powder with a different smell! x

  • I’ve used this shampoo in the past and youre right it isnt good for volume. I only got the slightest bit of lift. However I do find its a great shampoo to get a really deep clean. My hair always felt extrememly fresh afterwards, as though all the product build up had gone. Shame how something work for some and not for others! xx

    • People have said it is great for a deep clean but sadly that wasn’t what I wanted it for! Sadly just didn’t get on with my hair xx

  • I hate when something your looking forward to let’s you down!
I’ve never tried lush hair products, thank god after reading this,:)

  • So sad to seee a lush product that doesn’t deliver! I love their products.

    • It is! I don’t use a lot of Lush products and I usually hear such great things about them, is a shame about this xx

  • N’aw, I hate it when you get a lush product that’s a huge disappointment! I’ve personally never tried it before, the hefty price tag always put me off!

    xx

    • You think with the price tag you would get a product that worked! Haha wishful thinking :p xx

  • I worked for LUSH but never really recommended this for volume, but absolutely for deep cleansing. To be honest, nothing works better than backcombing at the roots for me.

    xoxo

    • Really? Maybe they should change the name of it then! Haha! It does seem great for deep cleansing though xx

  • its such a shame that this didn’t work!x

  • I must admit whenever I move away from my usual bath bubble/bath bomb stuff in Lush I find most of their stuff really disappointing.

    • That’s a shame. I am tempted to try out some skincare bits as have heard good things about them – just a shame about this shampoo xx

  • Sam

I love using Big, but more for the deep clean than volume. It works great for me but I do have really oily hair. They do another shampoo called I love Juicy, its more of a traditional shampoo texture but the smell is so amazing it makes your mouth water! Again I use it for the clarifying aspects and don’t really try to add volume but it may work for you x

    • Thanks so much for the tip I will look into that one! Hopefully it will work better for me =) xx

  • Oh no! I hate being disappointed! Good luck with finding something that works.
    xx

    • Am trying something now that seems to be working better =) As soon as I have tried it more I will do a review xx

  • Oh that’s so disappointing ! I hope the salt did not damage your hair, I’m always scared of this with such products ! xx
