When Cult Beauty is running one of their epic gift with purchase offers, you know it won’t take long before you’ve stocked up enough in your online bag to qualify. It may result in a few ‘unnecessary’ or ‘impulse’ purchases but it’s all for a good cause, at least that’s how I rationalise it! Luckily I teamed up with my mum to help soften the shopping bag damage however I did find a couple of things that I simply ‘had’ to pickup.

Starting with a shampoo. You all know about my current obsession with Davines (that is still going strong) however there is another haircare brand that’s burst onto the scene & is causing quite a buzz. Ouai from celebrity stylist Jen Atkin is being met with high acclaim so I simply had to see what the fuss was about. Starting with their Clean Shampoo, I saw this over on Lily Pebbles channel as she raved about it’s effective results whilst being gentle enough to use on coloured hair. Thanks to my fine tresses I’m constantly layering them up with dry shampoo or texturising sprays resulting in the need to have a shampoo with a bit more bite to clean through the buildup. I’m only one wash in so the jury is still out but I’ll report back my findings.

Next up we’ve got two makeup purchases from one of my favourite brands Jouer. Their compact cosmetic line and fab lineup of colours, formulas and textures are always a winner in my book.  Starting with their newly released highlighters that I spied over on Jaclyn Hill’s channel I opted for Topaz which is a golden highlight delivering up a Champagne Pop style glow. Everything online looked beautiful but what I received was a pressed powder that looked close to shattering and gave an incredible about of fallout even with the smallest brush. All of Jaclyn’s powders arrived smashed and although mine wasn’t, I can easily move or press the powder around in the pan. Such a shame for what is usually a high quality brand.

The second purchase was also a disappointment. Their Long-Wear Lip Créme Liquid Lipsticks have been popular with a number of bloggers so in the interest of qualifying for the GWP I picked up the shade Buff. Promise this had nothing to do with my ongoing liquid matte lipstick obsession… Described as a matte warm peachy nude I was expecting great things but instead I got a formula that was tricky to work with, struggled to become opaque on the lips and bleeded even with a liner. The swatch, beautiful but it’s just a shame this didn’t translate in application.

I’ve also added a swatch of Bombshell from Huda Beauty as it finally arrived! Also marketed as an everyday nude, you can see it is a lot darker compared to Buff and comes across more terracotta in tone.

  • Thank you for this, I love to read sincere blog posts. Now I really don’t need this two products ;)

  • Omg that highlighter looks amazing! Such a pretty colour. Pity it didn’t perform :(

  • That’s a shame about Jouer, I really like the Jouer Long-Wear Lip crèmes, as for the highlighters, having so much fallouts (and broken pans) means that the powders are extremely finely milled, which I guess is a plus, yet, if it’s impossible for you to work with them, I think I will pass on these ones! Thank you for the post!

  • Jessica Riley

I’ve always wanted to try Jouer as their blush is so highly hyped. That highlighter looks incredible!

    The Crown Wings

  • The Jouer highlighter swatch looks so beautiful! So sad that it wasn’t packaged as good as it looks. Great post!

  • These are such beautiful shades

    Beauty Candy Loves

  • It’s surprising to hear about about Jouer, I mean, people loved them, but I guess different people experience different thing. Bombshell is pretty, tho!

    Selene Addicted

  • Sorry to here about the Jouer products! I usually hear nothing but great things… the swatch of their liquid lipstick in Buff looked stunning, had the major disappointments when I read your review – think I’ll save my pennies and go with another brand! Thank you for being honest :)

  • Aw, too bad the Jouer powder is a bit of a letdown. But the swatches all look amazing.

  • A nice haul. I was going to order one of the Jouer highlighters but the shade I wanted-Citrine- sold out really quick. And at the same time I have soo many highlighters!

On the hair note, what color protective products do you use?

    • Save your pennies on that one! In terms of hair I use an O&M purple shampoo to keep brassy tones at bay :) xx
