Longlasting Makeup Tips

longlasting makeup tips

Last weekend marked my Aunts 70th birthday. A celebration that occurred in the deepest, darkest northern part of the UK (I jest it was in Manchester) however it did involve a 6am alarm call. These are one of those rare occasions when you really need your makeup to last, I’m not talking about a day at work or keeping yourself spruced up for impromptu after work drinks, I mean those days when you need your makeup to look pristine from 7am in the morning through to 10pm at night. On this rare occasion I delved through my makeup collection on the hunt for those items that I could trust to stay in place, from primers to shadows I had all my bases covered to aid in a fresh faced appearance when I arrived to greet my family.

Whenever thoughts move to long lasting makeup my initial pull is always towards primer, what else is going to lock everything in place whilst the hours tick by? For this I used the Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer* as not only does it keep shine at bay, you guessed it, it also makes my foundation last longer. Primer was also used for my lids and my lashes. The NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is a no brainer, for oily lid gals or those who simply want their shadow to stay in place, this is a must. I also branched out into lash primer oer with the Estee Lauder Little Black Primer*. Still not 100% sure whether this is a gimmick or actually works, it promises to hold curl and volume throughout the day which sounds good to me!

My current go to long lasting foundation is the L’Oreal True Match Foundation. Surpassing all my luxury favourites, this is what I gravitate towards when I need a base to stay in place. Giving a flawless finish whilst still looking natural, I can’t sing it’s praises enough. Although not technically tailored for those long lasting makeup sessions, the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser Eye is what I grab on those days when my bags are drooping to the floor or when I need my concealer to stay. With fab longevity you can trust this to stick around when the going gets tough. For powder it’s got to be Tarte. With their Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blushers my fav being Tipsy and their Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer, you can trust your blush and bronzer to stay put.

What are you go to products when you need your makeup to last? Any tips or tricks in your makeup book? Don’t forget a spritz of a fab setting spray like the L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray.

  • I saw someone on twitter saying she put Urban Decay setting spray underneath AND on top of her make up to make it last in the heat. I must try that trick ;)

    • I’ve tried that a couple of times before and it really helps to lock everything in place xx

  • I love that concealer, but I found it does not like to last in heat if you get oily skin.

Primer is great for long lasting makeup. Setting spray is a must have too!

I’ve recently bought the MUA setting spray and it’s done well to keep my face smudge-free in this heat we’ve been having! But I would also be keen to try the L’Oreal one :)

    • I love how refreshing the L’Oreal one feels on my skin and the spray doesn’t end up soaking your entire face!xx

I’ve heard so many good things about the Rimmel primer I must try it! The L’Oreal setting spray sounds good, I’ll be keeping an eye out for that!

    • I’ve been really impressed by the Rimmel primer and find it really helps to keep my makeup in place for longer xx

  • I love these posts, especially since I can’t seem to get my makeup to stay all day, generally. I’ve heard the UD Setting Spray is really great, but I currently use the Australis Setting Powder, which is fairly decent for the price. The Estée Lauder foundation is a goody too!

    • I’ve got the UD Setting Spray as well and it’s great – that, a good foundation and primer and you are pretty much set to go!xx

  • Is the NARS eye primer really as good as everyone says? Because I have INSANELY oily lids and I am still to find anything that really keeps my shadow from creasing/disappearing after about 3 hours (maybelline colour tattoos are the best I’ve found but still not great. MAC paint pots and UD primer potion both totally useless). If you say yes I will totally buy it. I am desperate at this point.

    • For my lids it really makes a difference but then I don’t struggle with super oily lids. I think it’s defo worth giving a go and I’ve also seen minis available with some of their palettes :) xx

  • L’oread true match has such amazing lasting power! And my natural oils never seem to come through it either which is always great :)

  • Wow these are great picks, it’s very rare that I need makeup to last that long but layers is key! A good primer, setting spray and face powder.

  • Sounds like new items had been added to my wishlist right now! Amazing to know how drugstore products can be trusted on days we need to stay flawless 15 hours or so! I trust my beloved Catrice Waterproof Powder to keep shine at bay all day! xx
