The Edit: Best Drugstore Bases

edit best drugstore base

I love my luxury beauty products. It’s okay. I can admit it. There is something about their super swish packaging and enticing beauty halls that lures me in only to result in my dropping some serious money shock. That being said, I have become more acquainted with the British drugstores over the past couple of years and delved into the budget delights that they have to offer. What can I say, there are some fab products on the highstreet that really give their luxury counterparts a run for their money! Recently I’ve noticed more of my everyday base picks sit under that £10 price tag so I thought it was finally time to share them with you :)

Bourjois 123 Perfect Colour Correcting Cream

New in to my drugstore top 3 edit comes from Bourjois in the form of their CC Cream. Unlike the Dr Jart offering that I talk about below, this is more akin to a foundation and becomes more of a CC Cream hybrid. The consistency is heavier therefore giving you more coverage without going patchy throughout the day. This is what I’ll grab if I want to rock that no makeup, makeup look. Giving more colour to the skin whilst masking any imperfections or blemishes this will give your a bit more coverage confidence when you don’t want to reach for a traditional foundation.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation

It was this foundation alone that converted my previous skepticism over drugstore foundations. Initially worried over shade selection, cheep packaging and poor formulas, this has actually become my go to foundation for nights out or days when I need my makeup to last. The coverage is on point, I’m talking a medium finish that still manages to look natural on the skin without clinging to any dry patches. I apply this either with a beauty blender or my RT buffing brush and every time it gives a gorgeous finish that I still am loving months later.

Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm Cream

Is there anything else I can say about this hydrating base that hasn’t been said before? A firm favourite from the past couple of years I flit between using this daily depending on the time of year and how my skin is behaving. Either as a laid back weekend look or even to brave to work (it has been known to happy before!) this is my all time favourite BB cream and natural base to wear.

What are your favourite drugstore foundations? What do I need to try next? ;)

  • I love the Bourjois Cc cream! As well as the l’Oreal Infallible Matte foundation. It’s a great one for my oily skin ;)

  • I’m going to get the CC cream tonight!

  • My current drugstore favorite is the L’oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundation. I was surprised how much I liked it since I do prefer my higher end bases. It has a matte finish but it’s not flat and also it’s super long lasting so it’s perfect for summer when you want something like that. Oh and I apply it with a BeautyBlender, I find that you get the most natural finish that way.

    • I’ve been hesitant to try that one because of the matte in the name but might just have to!xx

  • Emily Knott

I really like the CC cream. I also love Revlon’s Nearly Naked and L’oreal Infallible foundation.

  • I haven’t really tried BB and cc creams before but have heard good things. It’s nice to wear a lighter base in the summer, let’s your skin breathe. x

  • I don’t like the look that True Match gives me. It’s not moisturising enough for my skin I guess. Bourjois CC seems nice though. I’m a total fan of light coverage.

    • Thats a shame – maybe mix in a hydrating primer or moisturiser with it to help application xx

  • I really want to try the True Match foundation. It sounds really good for the price.

  • Clara Matse

I have that L’Oreal foundation and it’s really good!!

  • L’oreal Foundation was the first liquid foundation I tried and fell in love with! This post has reminded me to use it more often :)

  • Karii Zenteno

I really want to try them all! The bourjois CC cream is never available where I live, the Dr Jart+ one looks super interesting and I’ve only read good things about it.
The L’oreal True match foundation, I havent use it in at least 9 years, I remember the awful packing back then, SO MESSY. I dont even remember if I liked it or not haha, But now I really want to give it another chance :)

    Great post! xx

    • Hopefully giving it another chance will remind you how great it is – luckily I’ve had no troubles with the packaging xx

  • Loreal True Match has been on my to buy list for so long but I have too many foundations atm to get through wahh.

  • I have the Bourjois CC Cream and it feels so gross on my face! Plus, I have been wearing it on occasion while out and sweaty and it comes right off. I did a review a few weeks ago, aswell if you want to see my complete opinion! :-) (Which I’m not going to pollute your post with, haha.)

My favorite drugstore concealer/Base is Rimmel “Hide The Blemish”, it’s not a foundation per say but I actually use it to cover any red bits/Spot on my face. it’s so creamy and has a very good coverage! x

    • Thats a shame you didn’t like the CC Cream. That concealer sounds fab though will give it a try!xx
