Getting into Liners

Although I’m a makeup addict, beauty lover and lippy obsessed, I’ve never gotten into liner. Not to be confused with the liner you pop onto your lash line to create a smokey eye, I’m talking lip liner. The seemingly 80s trend that recently has been revamped thanks to a range of reformulated liners that offer up soft applications that come in a vast range of colours. Luckily liners no longer mean you’ll be left with a contrasting colour that leaves undesirable wear marks throughout the day.

Instead you can use these soft pencils to define your lips, add a slightly overdrawn line to leave that plumped up look or even apply underneath your lippy of choice to help it last longer throughout the day. The brand that really kickstarted the renewed love affair with liners was Charlotte Tilbury. Her range of Lip Cheats have taken the beauty world by storm as they are some of the most creamy and long-lasting lip liners I’ve ever tried. Mine is in the shade Pink Venus* and it’s a fab everyday nude with a hit of pink that complements a multitude of shades.

You can’t talk liners without mentioning #KylieLipKits and the woman who relaunched ‘lips’. The queen of big, plumped up lips her range of liquid lipsticks and liners have been met with continued high demand throughout the world. Now although the quality isn’t always top notch and shipping can be a biatch, I’ve gotta say I love her liners! Again these are super creamy, long lasting and come in fab nude shades that really work at giving that ‘plumped’ effect.

Now finally there is MAC. For me, you can’t get past the fact that these liners are drying. Scratchy to apply, slightly uncomfortable on the lips, the formula isn’t the best but they do have some of those most perfect 90s grunge look shades. With Whirl and Soar selling out across counters, the poor formula can be forgiven for a gorgeous colour. Nothing beats MAC for those brown nudes!

Are you a lip liner lover? What are your favourites?
