The Edit: Getting on Board with Gloss

getting into gloss

Gloss – that word which instantly conjures up thoughts of sticky, tacky consistencies that last on the lips for mere moments. Although they give a pretty finish to a lipstick, they aren’t always the most practical choice when it comes to adding some colour to your lips. This can result on glosses getting shunned for their matte lipstick counterparts and hidden away at the back of the draw. In a slight turn of events during my July favourites that you can see here I declared a gloss as a favourite. I know, groundbreaking! There are glosses that exist which deviate from the norm and impart that colour without the dreaded connotations of an old school glosses.

Maybelline Colour Elixir in 400 Alluring Coral* – I’ve raved on and on about this gloss since picking it up a few months back. It’s one of those drugstore finds that is similar to stumbling across gold hidden away on a beach. It’s cheap as chips yet gives colour and shine to the lips without encouraging your hair to stick to it all day.

L’Oreal Cream 103 Protest Queen – aka the one that snuck into my monthly favourites. Out of the bunch this is the most sticky in formula however it can be allowed for the wand that is shaped to your lips. Making application a breeze and fun this brings the shine whilst being that perfect nude addition to slick over your lipstick of choice.

Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Blush – if you’re looking for a gloss that doesn’t act like a traditional gloss, this is where you need to start. The brand and formula that reignited my love for these slick lip additions, their shade range is to die for and they come in mini size! Blush is a gorgeous everyday nude and you’ll also find that they don’t taste half bad either ;)

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Lolita – newbie alert, recent addition from Kat Von D this matte brown nude gives intense colour on the lips that doesn’t budge throughout the day. Although technically this isn’t a gloss, it lives up to it’s name of liquid lipstick, it does show how glosses can be reformulated into matte long lasting products. breaking away from the norm and giving you intense colour payoff throughout the day

Dior Rouge Brilliant Gloss in 359 Miss – Dior really knows how to bring it when it comes to glosses. Packed full of shine with minimal tacky gloss problems, it gives the colour whilst leaving that bright shine on the lips. Miss is a pinky take on a nude and I find out of the bunch, this gives the most long-lasting colour for a gloss

  • I do always think of gloss as sticky and therefore never wear it, maybe I’ll try one of these ones you’ve mentioned! Lovely post!

  • I’m definitely more of a lipstick kinda girl too but for a night out (read: indoors… where there is NO wind) I now often reach for gloss as well.

  • I’m not one for glosses but if matte liquid lipsticks are included I am all for them!! Sure need to try that Kat Von D one, shade is stunning! Who knows I’ll get into the shine world of glosses one day, this will be very handful!

  • I’m funny about gloss because most of the ones I buy tend to be sticky like you mentioned! Thanks for these recommendations though I’ll be sure to check them out <3

I dont like glosses I feel like they dont suit me, although lately I’ve been thinking about one I used to love when I was a child, you know, one of those clear ones with fruity smell/flavour that had a roll-on applicator, really wanna know if its as good as I remember! x

  • I love glosses, still trying to dip my toes into the hole lipstick world. One pet peeve of a gloss how sticky they can be, still trying to find that one that isn’t.

  • I have never been a gloss person, but the Maybelline Colour Elixirs are definitely a great first step for anyone who is scared of stickiness. x

I swear by Nars glosses, Giorgio Armani and Chanel Glossimers!

  • Not much of a gloss person but liquid lipsticks are my absolute go-to. I can’t stand anything else on my list. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some KVD lipsticks for a while, but Lolita is ever sold out! Haha. x

    • Damn the hype – however it is well worth it when you do get your hands on it!xx

      • Haha, for real! And the re-sellers are absolutely taking the piss swell by re-selling those lipsticks four times the price! Ahh, figures! :-D x
