Day to Night Makeup

day to night makeup

Whether you work full time, are always on the go or find yourself in one of those situations when you need to be out the house sooner than you’d like, a day to night makeup kit is essential. A few key pieces can transition a day time look into something with a tad more smokey oomph, perfect for drinks or a dinner. Now although I say kit not all these items are travel friendly, obviously there are mini alternatives but I wanted to share the steps I run through to refresh my look so I don’t end up heading out with drab looking makeup that’s halfway off my face!

Spritz & Refresh – to instantly reawaken tired or lacklustre skin I like to go in with a radiance boosting spray to lift up my complexion whilst hydrating any dry areas. The Pixi Glow Mist is perfect for this as it is enriched with 13 natural oils to leave you with a luminous base. Who forgot to include it in their facial mists post yesterday *cough* ME!

Pop of Powder – looking for the perfect handbag compact when it comes to transforming your makeup from day to night? All you need is the Urban Decay Naked Flushed Compact* as inside you get a bronzer, highlighter and blush all housed within a palette with massive mirror. You don’t need a lot to reawaken your look but a hint of colour on the apples of your cheeks and a dusting of bronzer and highlighter helps your makeup look freshly applied.

Inner Corner Highlight – if I’m in a rush for drinks or don’t have time to redo my makeup from scratch, I will always reach for my byTerry Ombre Backstar in Blond Opal. The most gorgeous frosty golden white shade, think inner corner highlight but on another level. Thats exactly what you get in this little stick and a small amount goes a long way.

Smokey Up Those Lids – whenever there is an extra five minutes on the clock I always aim to smoke up my eye look. By having a palette which comprises of every colour you need, a quick wash of colour across the lid and darker shade throughout the crease adds definition and shape with little fuss. This budget beauty from Collection does just that, Eyes Uncovered Palette in 1 Nude has six shades ranging from matte to shimmer that guides you through achieving the perfect smokey eye.

Big Lashes – when amping up your eye look you can’t go without a fresh layer of mascara before you step out the door. I believe it was Beyonce’s makeup artist that said an application of mascara makes all the different to a complexion, it reawakens the eyes. For big dramatic lashes it’s all about the Maybelline Lash Sensational as it gives that volume without clumping.

Bold Lip – when going from day to night you’ve gotta rock a red lip. It’s that one step that really takes you from 0 to 60 and gets you ready for whatever is on the agenda. Three recommendations here, the budget Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red, the traditional brick red Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw, and the classic NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. Each one gives super long lasting colour that won’t budge throughout the evening.

What are you favourite day to night makeup products? Do you reach for the same things each time?

I love the difference a good inner corner highlight can make :) Cruella has been my go-to night out lip lately. It’s so long-lasting and just instantly glams up any look :)

  • I always highlight the inner corners of my eyes, always, night or day! It’s such a small thing to do but it makes a world of difference.

  • I can wear the same eye makeup from day to night and like you just switch up the lipstick shade, probably use an orange red or berry shade. I love MAC Lady Danger or Craft from ABH, both gorgeous shades for a pop of color :)

  • Stacy

I often wear the same makeup either in the day time or in the night time.

  • Emma

I’ve never really thought much about changing my makeup from day to night – normally I just take it all off and start again but these tips will be really helpful! I agree 100% that a red lip is a necessity for a night out and I love the idea of adding a lighter and a darker eyeshadow to really emphasise the eyes. I really enjoy reading your blog!

    • Because my skin can get quite sensitive I have to wait a while before reapplying makeup! Thanks for your lovely comment :) xx

  • I only tried the Nars lip pencils a few months ago and now I’m obsessed. I need every colour including Cruella.

  • AuntyMiff

Oh gorgeous! I really want to try the Sephora liquid lipstick stuff. I always find tightlining/waterlining, contouring and a bold lip are my go to night time tricks!

  • I love Lash Sensational :) not too much for daytime but can give some real impact. I really like the Collection palette too xx

  • These are great pointers, I’m always trying to perfect my quick makeup-refresh routine so these steps will definitely come in handy! x Krista

  • I have been wanting and looking for “Outlaw” for a while, it is lush! Also, I’d like to try the Nars Velvet Matte Pencil which also looks awesome.

My favorite day to night product are mascara and red liquid lipsticks aswell, not only does it suffice to look badass but it switches any look instantly! x
