A Post for the Tall Gals

beingtall

When communicating with a group of people through a computer, it can be hard to depict what the girl behind the words is really like. I am no fashion blogger and I don’t believe I’ve ever posted a full length photo of myself on this blog therefore it might be a surprise to some when you find out that I am in fact pretty tall. Above average in height, although I am usually slumped over my mac editing pictures of my face & makeup, I have a long set of pins that reach out below me. Last time I got measured I was 5ft 11 and ever since I was a child, my height has remained in the higher percentile. Towering over my friends and most of the boys I’ve never had skinny long limbs so have adapted to my height in different ways. For any of those other long legged and torso gals out there these are a few of my tips that have gotten me through the years:

  • Don’t be afraid of heels, although they will add to the height they help you stand tall with confidence
  • Some boys are going to be shorter then you. Fact
  • Just because your tall doesn’t mean your legs will be skinny and that’s ok
  • You will learn to love jeans
  • Dresses will be a saviour when it comes to balancing out your proportions
  • You will stack it out of a nigh club in Kurt Geiger heels. Yes, those are too tall for you
  • People being shocked by your height will never end
  • Shorts will always be your problem clothing #nakedalert
  • You are going to feel awkward in full length photos and stand to the side to ‘enhance your angles’
  • Not being able to shop the trends isn’t all that bad and you will learn to use it to your advantage
  • You will always have a good view in gigs
  • Being stealth will never be your forte – at least I still haven’t mastered it
  • Sleeping bags. Just no
  • Always be careful when bending over in a skirt
  • Embrace the height as you will always be one of the first to know when it is raining ;)

This made me chuckle, yep wore shorts yesterday and felt the need to keep yanking them down in a bid to prove I was actually wearing shorts! The joys of having more leg than anything else! Also woohoo for shops/brands finally figuring out that tall girls would also like to buy that style of jeans! The years of asking for 34″ inside leg…well I’m sure you understand :) Although I do own some lovely jeans from long tall sally, now at least I have the option to buy cheaper jeans too :) Great post x

Glad it put a smile on your face :) I love the fact that more shops have tall sections! Woo finally normal tshirts won’t be crop tops on me :P xx

  • I kinda wish I needed this tips, ahah! I’m not the shortest but a few cm more wouldn’t hurt ;) xx

Haha bless you! Nothing wrong with being short – all I wanted to be when I was younger!xx

  • LOVE this post, really made me laugh! One of my friends is 6’2″ and she still wears heels, and bloody gorgeous she looks in them too!

Glad it made you chuckle! Being tall and wearing heels is the way to go!xx

  • what are your favourite shops? I find it so hard i’m about 5’9 and I struggle with dresses and skirts just about covering my bum and not many highstreet shops have tall sections:(

It changes quite often – for dresses I usually find most from ASOS, Topshop, Oasis back in the day. Miss Selfridges can sometimes do some good ones too :) xx

  • Awww bless you! Unfortunately it’s not much better on the short side of life. Your trousers always drag on the floor, skirts and dresses make you look frumpy. My best friend is 6ft and we often wish we could share height. We look a right pair of idiots when we go out though. So many drunk photos of her squatting and me on my tip toes (or her back!) xxx

Ahaha! Sometimes I find those photos are the best ;) Just goes to show there may not be such a thing as the perfect height!xx

  • This post is light hearted and made me chuckle but wow, lucky you, I wish I had your height! My dad and brothers are tall (in the 6ft range) but I’m only 5ft 4″.

Glad it made you chuckle! I wish I loved my height more when I was younger but I’ve learnt to embrace it :) xx

Good advice! I’m another tall gal (6ft ) and I completely agree with everything you said its so true. I love wearing heels although perhaps not 4″ ones – I leave that to my sister who is 2 inches sorter so can get away with it more :) Thanks for the post xx

Meant shorter not sorter – whoops! lol :)

So glad you liked it! Woo to another tall girl!! I agreed I don’t go for the tallest heels in the world but it is nice to wear a pair every once in a while :) xx

  • I thought it was tough being 4 feet 10 but it sounds harder being tall.

  • A Girl and a Beauty Blog

I don’t think you win either way! No such thing as the perfect height ;) xx

  • I’m about 5ft 9 and it’s becoming so much harder to find stuff the right length! I really like New Look’s tall section online, most of my holiday wardrobe came from there. Great post!

How did I not know that New Look has a tall section!? Must check it out – thanks lovely :) xx
