I’ve well and truly caught the minimalist bug. After swooning over home posts that have been popping up all over the blogging community, I found this weekend I didn’t want to wait any longer and starter to give my room a bit of an overhaul. As opposed to heading straight to Ikea and buying even more stuff I decided to delve into what I already had. Over the years I have collected a number of little baskets and storage boxes however I’ve noticed that that more I have, the most stuff I pile into them. As opposed to being ruthless with packaging and binning the overspill I managed to hold onto everything and it all got a bit out of hand, something had to be done. This weekend was the end and I threw away so many unused items that I shocked myself by the volume of stuff I managed to keep hold of.
Bye bye old makeup, toddle pip bundles of packaging, it was time to be strong and fill up the bin bags. I wouldn’t call myself a hoarder but I have always like my room to feel full. This has stemmed from years of student living where I would cram pictures, trinkets, packaging and posters around my room to help a space feel more like home. Understandably this mantra stuck with me over the years, but after lusting over minimal interiors it was time to ditch the tat and go for a more streamlined finished. Beauty products are now stored away and the amount I need to dust has reduced by over 60% thank goodness. I’ve still got a few homely touches throughout my room but these are more spread out and help to keep the home feeling without making the space look like a hoarders paradise.
24 hours ago I couldn’t even see the surface of my chest of draws, a small amount of organisation can result in a vast change. Already my room feels bigger and there is more space to breath. Amazing what I little bit of a clear out can do :)
