The Sunday Share #22

Making your manicure last – impossible right? Is there really a surefire way to prevent the dreaded chipping from happening a mere two days after you have meticulously painted your nails? No matter what polish, base coat and top coat concoction I would pair together, give it a handful of days and there you have it, chips denting away at your hard work. The little tykes! I was starting to give up with my manicures and resorted to going polish free, the extent of how fed up I was of always having my manicures damaged and looking a mess. However, with my collection of polishes staring up at me from the back of the cupboard it was time to jump back on the horse and try out a new tactic to see if I could extend my DYI manicure past the two day threshold.

In order to give your manicure a good base to adhere itself too I start with the CND Stickey Base Coat. Winning awards for it’s ability to extend the length of your polish, one coat and your nail varnish of choice will be gripped firmly to your nails to help it last the distance. This helps to prevent my polish from pealing away and keeps everything in place that bit longer. When it comes to the top coat this is where I have switched things up, as opposed to using a single brand that used to have little to no impact, I’ve found combining two top coats keeps my manicure in place for over a week, I kid you not!

First I use the Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat* to give my nail varnish a tough and shiny finish. This works great on it’s own but the secret to really keeping your manicure in place is to apply a coat of the infamous Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat the next day. This creates a super strong and tough sandwich for your nail varnish to sit between therefore helping it to last over double the amount of time a normal manicure would. I’ve tried this approach with different nail varnish brands and it’s made them all last well over the five day mark, hello impressed! The need to redo my manicure mid week has been removed and finally I can rely in my varnish to last throughout the week. Double top coats – I love you!

I’ve never tried the CND base coat, I might have to give it a try. I do love the Seche Vite though – it always makes my polishes last soo much longer.

  • CND Stickey Base Coat is the best. My favorite top coat at the moment is Sephora Formula X Top Coat, it is super shiny and makes my manicure chip free for a whole week.

  • I need to try the Sticky base coat! So need to get it xx

  • Love the tip about Seche Vite the next day! Since trying The System from Formula X I’ve found it hard to turn back to my usual products as it’s just too good, but they’re there waiting to be used up so this is a great way to do it for me! Thank you! :) xx
